About US

After years of hearing people say, “I wish I could do that,” we decided to build a place where they could. What began as a single seed of an idea grew into a vision for a space shaped by creativity, curiosity, and community. A year of conversations turned into plans; the groundwork was laid, and Hummingbird House was born.
Hummingbird House exists to make “I wish I could” into “I did.”

Hummingbird House is a community-centered arts space in San Francisco’s Mission District, created to support local artists and make creative expression more accessible to everyone. Our mission is to create space for local artists to share and show their artwork while providing opportunities for people to come together in community, be curious, and explore artistic outlets through classes and events.

Located in the heart of 24th Street, Hummingbird House exists in a neighborhood where art and culture are deeply woven into daily life, yet creative programming is often underfunded. Our work helps sustain a local arts culture that is vibrant, community-based, and accessible. We are committed to supporting artists not only by giving them space to show and teach, but also by building a place where neighbors, families, and visitors can gather and participate in creativity together.
Hummingbird House provides an accessible and inclusive gallery environment where local artists can exhibit their work through a first-come, first-served, two-month rotating exhibition schedule with low commission fees. We aim to create meaningful opportunities for both emerging and established artists to share their creativity, connect with new audiences, and participate in a supportive artistic ecosystem.
In addition to exhibitions, we offer classes and workshops taught by local artists across a wide range of mediums, including ceramics, perfumery, sewing, painting, and more. These workshops are designed to lower barriers to participation for both artists and attendees. We create an environment where instructors can focus on sharing their knowledge and participants can try something new without the pressure of a high financial commitment.
We also host free community art events, including Sunday Community Art Days, where people of all backgrounds can gather to make art together in a welcoming, low-pressure setting. We provide supplies for activities such as painting, sketching, knitting, working with clay, and other hands-on creative practices. These events are about more than artmaking — they are about community care, curiosity, and the simple but powerful experience of being together.
By investing in Hummingbird House, donors help strengthen local artists, expand access to arts education, and preserve community-centered creative space in the Mission District. Every contribution helps us keep art accessible, inclusive, and rooted in connection.
